What is Lords of the Fallen?

Lords of the Fallen is a 2014 action role-playing video game developed by Deck13 Interactive and published by CI Games. It features a dark fantasy setting and gameplay similar to the Dark Souls series.

In the game, players take on the role of Harkyn, a human criminal who is released from prison to help fight against an otherworldly invasion led by three Lords and their demonic forces. The Lords are working to physically manifest the divine evil deity Rhogar on the human world.

As Harkyn, players use weapons, magic abilities, and defensive maneuvers to battle through hostile environments and defeat enemies, including boss monsters. The combat is challenging and utilizes a stamina system, where players must carefully time their attacks, blocks, and rolls.

The game world is expansive, with players exploring interconnected regions ranging from castles and prisons to cemeteries and lost temples. The world design offers many secrets and shortcuts to discover. There is also a character progression system, where players can customize Harkyn by upgrading attributes and acquiring new weapons, armor, and magic spells across three skill trees.

Lords of the Fallen received generally favorable reviews. Critics praised the challenging and rewarding combat system, impressive visuals and setting, but had mixed opinions on the story and characters. An expanded version titled Lords of the Fallen: Complete Edition was later released in 2015, containing all additional content.
