What is Lost Planet (Series)?

Lost Planet is a series of third-person shooter video games developed and published by Capcom. The games take place on a fictional planet called E.D.N. III, which has been colonized by humans in the distant future. The planet's environment is extremely inhospitable, with freezing temperatures and hostile indigenous creatures called Akrid.

The first Lost Planet game was released in 2006 for Xbox 360 and later ported to Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 3. It introduced the planet E.D.N. III and follows a conflict between colonists and the Akrid aliens over thermal energy, which is crucial for human survival in the extreme cold. The game features both single-player and multiplayer modes with on-foot combat and piloting mechanized suits called Vital Suits (VS).

Lost Planet 2 was released in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It features a new co-op campaign for up to 4 players. There is an expanded array of weapons, VS suits, and customization options. The setting moves from the first game's more isolated outposts to large-scale battles across multiple colonized areas of E.D.N. III.

A third entry in the series Lost Planet 3 serves as a prequel to the first Lost Planet. Released in 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows, it depicts the early colonization efforts on E.D.N. III before the main conflicts with the Akrid. Gameplay shifts to a more narrative-driven experience focused on a single character performing various jobs across the hostile planet.
