What is PyRoom?
PyRoom is a free, open-source minimalist text editor for Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems. Designed with writers in mind, PyRoom aims to provide a distraction-free writing environment that allows authors to focus on their words.
When PyRoom launches, all menus and most UI elements are hidden from view, leaving a blank text editing window with just the text cursor blinking. This stripped-down interface helps minimize distractions for writers. As you begin typing, the program automatically scrolls down to keep the latest line visible near the top. Useful writing statistics are displayed along the bottom, including word count, character count, reading time, etc.
While hidden by default, PyRoom provides basic editing functions via keyboard shortcuts or by hovering the mouse near the top of the screen to make the menu temporarily visible. These include basic editing commands (copy, paste, select all), changing font type and size, finding text, and more. Documents can be exported to HTML or PDF format.
With its simplicity, uncluttered interface, and keyboard-driven operation, PyRoom is popular among novelists, students, journalists, and technical writers who need a basic but distraction-free space to write.
