What is Tuxemon?
Tuxemon is an open-source, free-to-play monster catching RPG. It is inspired by games like Pokemon and features similar gameplay of exploring an overworld, capturing monsters, training them to battle, and defeating NPC trainers. Tuxemon sets itself apart with its original pixel art graphics, chiptune music, and unique monsters not found in other monster catching games.
Gameplay consists of exploring an overworld from a top-down perspective, talking with NPCs, capturing wild Tuxemon, and battling trainers. There is a story players progress through as they travel between towns and routes. Captured Tuxemon gain experience points from battles allowing them to level up and learn new moves. Each Tuxemon has different strengths, weaknesses, and techniques giving them variety during battle.
Multiplayer features allow playing cooperatively with friends to explore areas together. Trainers can also battle each other competitively. There are mini-games that can be played for diversion between story progress as well. Tuxemon also includes modding support to customize gameplay aspects.
As an open source project, Tuxemon is actively developed by its community of volunteers. There are frequent updates adding new features and content. The source code is available for anyone to view or modify under the GPL license. Platform support includes Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, and Ubuntu Touch.
