What is Control (game)?

Control is a third-person shooter action-adventure video game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by 505 Games. It was released in August 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

In Control, the player takes on the role of Jesse Faden as she explores the Federal Bureau of Control, a secretive government agency in New York City that deals with paranormal phenomena. Jesse is searching for her missing brother, Dylan, who was taken years ago by the Bureau after an unexplained supernatural event.

As Jesse explores the shifting and mysterious Bureau headquarters, she learns that an otherworldly force called the Hiss has invaded and possessed many of the Bureau employees. Jesse discovers that she can wield paranormal abilities and transforms a shapeshifting weapon to fight the Hiss and unlock many of the Bureau's secrets about paranormal entities, experiments, and altercations.

Key features of Control include telekinetic abilities like throwing debris at enemies, mind control, levitation, and shielding, an expansive and changing world to explore, side quests to undertake, a crafting system to modify Jesse's abilities, and challenging combat against paranormal enemies.

Reviews praised Control's story, setting, combat, and visuals, as well as Jesse's abilities. While some found the game confusing at times, it received very positive critical reception overall as an innovative and unsettling adventure.
