First-person survival horror game based on the Alien film series, emphasizing stealth and evasion over action, with limited weapons and resources to defend against a single xenomorph alien.
Alien: Isolation is a single-player survival horror game set in the iconic universe of Ridley Scott's 1979 sci-fi horror film Alien. You play as Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, the protagonist of the Alien film series. The game is set 15 years after the events of the original Alien film.
You board the space station Sevastopol in search of the flight recorder of your mother's ship, the Nostromo, which has mysteriously disappeared. Once aboard Sevastopol you quickly discover something has gone terribly wrong - the station is mostly deserted and a deadly Xenomorph is stalking the corridors. You will need to rely on your wits and reflexes not only to navigate through the decrepit station and avoid the alien, but also contend with hostile humans and malfunctioning androids along the way.
Isolation sets itself apart from other games in the franchise by focusing on survival horror rather than run-and-gun action. You are vulnerable and under-powered, armed mainly with tools like a motion tracker, flashlight and craftable devices like noisemakers and Molotov cocktails. Stealth and evasion are emphasized instead of combat. Resources are limited, forcing you to make tough choices and pick your battles wisely against the alien threat.
With its atmospheric visuals and sound, tense cat-and-mouse gameplay against a solitary, lethal alien, and expansive station environment to explore, Alien: Isolation does an impressive job of capturing the tone and feel of the original Alien movie while introducing new story elements and characters.
