What is Penumbra (Series)?
Penumbra is a critically acclaimed series of first-person horror adventure video games developed by Swedish indie studio Frictional Games. The series consists of three games: Penumbra: Overture, Penumbra: Black Plague, and Penumbra: Requiem.
The games follow different protagonists as they explore mysterious, abandoned locations such as an underground complex in Greenland and try to piece together strange events related to a shadowy corporation called Archaic Etech. The protagonists must also evade deadly enemies and solve environmental puzzles while emphasizing stealth over direct combat.
Penumbra stands out for its atmospheric settings and use of physics and sound to create an extremely tense, frightening experience. The games pioneer many gameplay elements that Frictional expanded on in their later hit Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
