What is FreeOrion?

FreeOrion is an open-source, turn-based space empire and galactic conquest 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) computer game. It features the ability to explore stars and colonize planets, research new technologies, design starships, and manage an interstellar empire.

The gameplay is inspired by the classic Master of Orion games, allowing players to experience the thrill of running their own space-faring civilization. Matches can be human player vs human player, human vs AI players, or even AI vs AI players.

• Procedurally generated galaxies with up to 1000 stars
• Over a dozen playable races, each with unique traits, strengths, and weaknesses
• Ship designer to customize starships, balancing firepower, speed, range, and cost
