PUBG is an online multiplayer battle royale game where players parachute onto an island, scavenge for weapons and equipment, and eliminate opponents to be the last one standing, winning a coveted title.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an online multiplayer battle royale game developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korean video game company Bluehole. The game pits 100 players against each other on an island, where they scavenge for weapons, vehicles, and other equipment to kill other players while avoiding getting killed themselves.
A match in PUBG works like this: players start by parachuting onto an island arena, initially unarmed. Once they land, they must explore the island and scavenge buildings to find weapons, vehicles, armor, and other gear. Equipment is procedurally distributed across the map at the start of a match, with certain high-risk, high-reward zones having better equipment. Over time, the playable area shrinks down in size due to an encroaching blue energy field that damages players outside of the safe zone, forcing surviving players into tighter spaces and encouraging player encounters.
The last player or team left standing at the end wins the coveted "Chicken Dinner." Matches can be played solo, duo, or in squads of four players. PUBG offers first-person and third-person camera perspectives to suit different gameplay styles.
Originally conceived as a mod for other games by Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene, PUBG was Greene's first standalone game. After successful early access launches on PC and Xbox in 2017, PUBG rapidly became one of the most popular games in the world. It was instrumental in pioneering and popularizing the multiplayer online battle royale genre, which pits a large number of players against each other in a last-man-standing competition across an increasingly smaller playable area.
