WinAuth: Free, Open Source One-Time Password Generator

A free software for generating one-time passwords compatible with multiple authentication systems, enhancing security for sites and services requiring two-factor authentication.

What is WinAuth?

WinAuth is a lightweight, portable application for Windows that allows users to generate one-time passwords and verification codes for logins that require two-factor authentication. It supports several common standards used for multi-factor auth, including Time-based One-time Password algorithm (TOTP) and HMAC-based One-Time Password algorithm (HOTP).

Some of the key features of WinAuth include:

  • Generating secure 6 or 8 digit TOTP or counter-based HOTP codes
  • Easy import of accounts from files or by scanning QR codes
  • Exporting accounts as XML for backup and transfer to other devices
  • Encrypted storage of account data and credentials
  • Portable app that can run directly from a USB drive
  • Totally free and open source (GPL license)

WinAuth works with many popular sites and services such as Google, Facebook, Dropbox, Amazon Web Services, and Git that support two-factor or multi-factor authentication. It can eliminate the need to purchase additional physical devices for one-time password generation. Since the app does not require installation or admin rights, WinAuth is convenient for accessing secure accounts from any Windows PC.
