BetterDisplay: Free Display Calibration Software

Free, open-source display calibration software for accurate colors from your monitor, with options for brightness, contrast, RGB balance, and more.

What is BetterDisplay?

BetterDisplay is a free and open-source display calibration software application for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It allows users to accurately calibrate the colors, brightness, contrast and other settings of their computer monitor or external display.

BetterDisplay provides an easy-to-use workflow for guiding users through the calibration process step-by-step. It first has you adjust brightness and contrast settings, then moves on to gamma, white point, RGB balance and more. There are both basic and advanced options depending on user needs.

A key highlight of BetterDisplay is its focus on accuracy. It includes support for colorimeters, which are hardware devices that objectively measure monitor colors and settings. This allows you to dial in a very precise calibration tailored specifically to your display model. There are also many preset calibration profiles for common monitor brands and models.

In addition to calibrating colors, BetterDisplay also allows calibration of brightness, black level, gamma, white point temperature and more. There are also tools for testing color banding issues, dead pixels, contrast and uniformity.

BetterDisplay is free, open source software licensed under the GNU GPL. It works on Windows, MacOS and Linux operating systems. It can be a useful tool for photography, design, video editing and other color-sensitive work.
