What is Black Box?
Black Box is an open-source flight data analysis and animation tool for Linux. It enables detailed analysis of recorded flight data by transforming raw flight recorder files into animated replays showing the flight in a 3D environment.
Key features of Black Box include:
- Decoding and analysis of flight data from a variety of recorders
- 3D animated models and overlays showing aircraft position, attitude, and movement
- Graphs and gauges visualizing key flight parameters over time
- Playback controls to examine specific events frame-by-frame
- Export of analysis data to other tools
- Customization of analysis parameters and visualization options
By transforming raw flight data into an interactive 3D animation synchronized with gauges and graphs, Black Box allows easier interpretation of issues during a flight. It is used by pilots and accident investigators to better understand aircraft performance and identify potential causes of incidents.
Black Box works on Linux and is released under the GNU General Public License. It supports a range of popular flight data formats out of the box and can be extended to decode custom formats.
