What is DC Universe Online?

DC Universe Online (DCUO) is a free-to-play 3D action combat MMORPG based on the fictional universe of DC Comics. Developed by Daybreak Game Company and originally launched in 2011, the game allows players to create their own unique superhero or supervillain character that interacts with key characters and locations from DC lore.

After creating a custom hero or villain avatar, the player's character is awakened by either Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor or The Joker, depending on the player's moral choice. The player's mentor character then guides them in controlling their newfound powers to fight alongside famous DC characters against iconic DC Super-Villains like The Joker, Harley Quinn, Circe, Doomsday, and Braniac.

Gameplay in DCUO revolves around fast-paced combat using a hotkeyed power system against hordes of enemies in large open world zones based on Gotham City, Metropolis, Titans Island and many more. The game also features instanced open world alert events, instanced raids, daily open world missions, dungeons and a player-versus-player combat system with various modes.

As a free-to-play game, DCUO uses a freemium business model allowing free access to gameplay but also featuring optional paid memberships that grant various perks. Overall, the game allows DC fans to create their dream hero or villain avatar and fight alongside Batman and the JLA while exploring locations seen across DC Comics, TV shows, movies and more.
