Black Desert Online is a popular fantasy MMORPG developed by Pearl Abyss and originally released in Korea in 2014, then later released for North America and Europe in 2016. It is known for its cutting-edge visuals powered by the in-house-developed engine that features stunning environments and effects, as well as an in-depth character customization system.
The game features a massive seamless open world with dynamic weather and day/night cycles across various unique biomes like sprawling grasslands, harsh deserts, tranquil forests, mystical cities, and more. It has an action-based combat system that combines hack-and-slash mechanics with combos for a very fluid and responsive battle experience.
There is no set class system, instead you can mix-and-match from a variety of weapons and skills to create your own custom playstyle. Other notable features include farming, trading, sailing across the oceans with your own boat, taming horses, crafting equipment, player housing, sieges and large scale PvP battles, world bosses, hidden treasures, and more.
While the game is free-to-play, there is an optional subscription model and convenience items available for real money that provide some advantages but are not necessary to enjoy the core content. Overall it provides a very immersive medieval fantasy world packed with activities for all playstyles.
