The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) is a 3D fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by Turbine and set in J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional world of Middle-earth. The game launched in 2007 and allows players to explore the expansive landscapes described in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings writings and meet characters from the books, including Aragorn, Gandalf, and Frodo.
