What is World of Warcraft?
World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released in 2004 by Blizzard Entertainment. Set in the high fantasy world of Azeroth, WoW allows players to create a character avatar and explore an open world environment with thousands of other players from around the world.
In the game, players collect gear, weapons and other loot as they battle monsters and complete quests. They can choose from a variety of character classes with unique abilities, including mages, warriors, priests and hunters. As characters progress in level, they become more powerful and gain new skills.
One of WoW's defining features is its emphasis on player vs. player (PvP) gameplay in the form of battlegrounds and arena combat. Players can test their abilities against others in intense duels and group combat scenarios. The game also features crafting, professions and an in-game economy driven by player participation.
With eight expansions released over its lifespan, World of Warcraft continues to be one of the most popular MMORPGs on the market. Its cartoonish art style, expansive lore, variety of quests and strong social component have attracted millions of dedicated players over the years across the globe.
