What is PlaneShift?

PlaneShift is an open source, free to play 3D online multiplayer fantasy roleplaying game and MMORPG developed by Atomic Blue. It features a fantasy world with elements of steampunk and features cooperative multiplayer gameplay, where players can group together to explore quests and dungeons.

Characters in PlaneShift are highly customizable, with players able to choose from multiple different races and classes, each with their own unique skills and abilities. There is a large variety of outfits, armors, and weapons that the player can wear and wield. As players gain experience by completing quests and defeating enemies, their characters level up and gain access to more skills and abilities.

PlaneShift places heavy emphasis on cooperation between players. Large dungeon areas, challenging boss enemies, and the possibility of open world player versus player combat means players will want to join guilds and groups to pool their abilities together. The game also features an extensive trade skill system where players can take on crafting professions like blacksmithing or tailoring to craft items for themselves and others.

PlaneShift features a persistent, open world spanning multiple large regions and continents. The lore and locations draw inspiration from European and world myth and history. As an open source project, the PlaneShift game client and server are free to download and play with no purchase necessary beyond the free registration of an account. The game's content is continually expanded through regular updates including new areas and quests.
