Fantasy MMORPG with Realm vs. Realm PvP combat and PvE content, now defunct due to declining revenue
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR) is a fantasy MMORPG developed by Mythic Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It is based on the popular Warhammer Fantasy tabletop game by Games Workshop.
The game features two warring factions, Order and Destruction, who battle across multiple zones in Realm vs Realm PvP combat. Players can take on various roles such as tank, healer, or damage dealer. PvE content includes questing, dungeons, raids, and public quests where players work together spontaneously.
Despite initial success and popularity, the game struggled to retain subscribers after launch. EA shut down Warhammer Online in 2013 after the subscriber base dropped too low to be profitable. At its peak in 2008, the game had over 800,000 subscribers.
While short-lived, Warhammer Online was considered innovative for its public quest system and large-scale Realm vs Realm PvP combat. Veterans of the game still have fond memories of epic castle sieges and battles involving hundreds of players.
