What is Aion?
Aion is an open-source blockchain platform created by the Canada-based Aion Foundation. The goal of Aion is to address major blockchain issues such as scalability, privacy, and interoperability.
At its core, Aion uses a multi-tier blockchain architecture consisting of a main blockchain that connects to numerous specialized blockchains. This allows it to process many transactions across various blockchains in parallel, improving scalability.
In terms of consensus, Aion uses a hybrid Proof-of-Work/Proof-of-Stake algorithm called Equihash Proof-of-Work. This gives it the security of PoW along with the efficiency and eco-friendliness of PoS.
For privacy, Aion supports sending anonymous encrypted transactions using zero-knowledge proofs. It also utilizes privacy-focused bridges to connect private Aion side chains.
Interoperability is a key feature of Aion via bridges that allow the transfer of data and value between Aion's ecosystem and external blockchains like Ethereum. These bridges enable cross-chain interoperability.
