What is FreeRDP?
FreeRDP is a popular open source implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol designed to provide remote access and control of Windows desktop environments. It allows you to interact with a remote PC as if you were sitting directly in front of it. FreeRDP supports a wide range of RDP features:
- Color depths up to 32 bpp
- Printer and drive redirection
- Clipboard sharing
- Audio and video redirection
- Support for USB redirection and virtual channels
- Seamless windows, remote app, and multiple monitor support
FreeRDP is lightweight, cross-platform and runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS. It can connect to almost any version of Windows and can be used to access both physical and virtual machines. With its active development community and plugin architecture, FreeRDP is regularly updated with stability improvements and new features. It's an ideal open source alternative to Microsoft's own RDP client.
