A fictional spell from the Harry Potter universe that allows wizards to split their soul and hide a fragment in an object, achieving immortality.
Horcrux is a powerful and sinister dark magic spell from the Harry Potter books and movies. It allows a wizard to split their soul and store a piece of it inside an object or creature, known as a Horcrux. As long as the Horcrux remains intact, the wizard cannot permanently die even if their body is destroyed.
To create a Horcrux, the wizard must commit murder, which rips the soul apart. Using an incantation, they can then capture the torn fragment of soul and encase it in an object for safekeeping. The creation of multiple Horcruxes allows one to have even greater resilience against death. However, splitting the soul too many times is dangerous and can cause instability.
In the Harry Potter series, the primary antagonist Lord Voldemort creates seven Horcruxes to attain immortality. This enables him to survive attacks that would have killed an ordinary wizard. The hero Harry Potter and his friends must embark on a quest to find and destroy Voldemort's Horcruxes in order to defeat him once and for all.
While fictional, the Horcrux represents the lengths some dark wizards will go to in order to avoid death and cling to power. Its sinister magic comes at a terrible spiritual cost, however. The process also requires extremely advanced and dangerous magic to accomplish.
