Role-playing video game sequel to Knights of the Old Republic, developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by LucasArts, released for Xbox in 2004 and PCs in 2005.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords is a role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by LucasArts. It is the sequel to BioWare's 2003 game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and was first released for the Xbox game console in 2004, followed by a Microsoft Windows version for personal computers in 2005.
The game is set in the Star Wars universe about 4,000 years before the events of the Star Wars films. It takes place approximately five years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic and finds the Jedi Order struggling to rebuild in the aftermath of the Jedi Civil War against Darth Malak's Sith Empire. The player character is a Jedi Knight exiled from the Order and cut off from the Force. As the game progresses, the Jedi begins to reconnect with the Force while being hunted by a mysterious Sith faction.
Gameplay consists of role-playing game mechanics seen in the previous game, including morality choices and consequences, character customization through skills and attributes, and real-time combat incorporating player-controlled lightsabers and Force powers. The game also features more complex characters, dialogues, and influence system than its predecessor.
Upon release, The Sith Lords garnered generally positive reviews with praise focused on the game's characters, storyline and music, while criticism was targeted at the game's rushed production schedule leading to cut content and technical issues. The game later received multiple awards for its story and character development and is now considered one of the greatest video games of all time.
