What is TiddlyRoam?
TiddlyRoam is an open-source personal knowledge management and note-taking tool. It is built on top of Roam Research's core ideas of bi-directional links, graph visualizations, and spaced repetition. However, as TiddlyRoam is entirely self-contained in a single HTML file, it does not rely on any external database servers or access to the internet - you can just save the file locally or to a cloud storage provider.
Some key features of TiddlyRoam include:
- Creating tiddlers (pieces of content) that can link to one another, allowing you to capture your ideas and make connections between them
- Flexible tagging system to categorize and relate tiddlers
- Backlinks to visually see how ideas are interconnected
- Daily notes and graph-of-content pages to see an overview of your knowledge base
- Built-in support for spaced repetition to help reinforce what you've learned over time
- Highly customizable - it's open source HTML/JavaScript so developers can extend functionality
As it requires no server-side component and stores all data locally in a single file, TiddlyRoam is a convenient and private option for building a personal wiki and second brain to manage knowledge and tasks.
BookStack, Workflowy, CherryTree, Logseq, TiddlyWiki, Notesnook, Zettlr, Trilium Notes, Quire, Cryptee, Zettel Notes are some alternatives to TiddlyRoam.
