What is MakeMKV?
MakeMKV is an easy-to-use yet powerful software for converting DVD and Blu-ray discs into MKV (Matroska) video files for backup purposes. It rips encrypted DVDs and Blu-rays into MKV containers very quickly while preserving all the meta information, menus, subtitles and audio/video tracks, including HD quality streams like 1080p.
One of the best features of MakeMKV is that it can decrypt DVD and Blu-ray encryption automatically while ripping, meaning you can easily backup DVDs and Blu-rays you own even if they are protected by CSS, AACS or BD+ copy protection schemes. The output MKV files will contain all the audio, video and subtitle streams as well as chapters information from original discs.
Since MakeMKV doesn't actually encode or transcode media streams, there is no quality loss when ripping DVDs and Blu-rays with it.
