Free and open-source software to prevent repetitive strain injuries (RSI) during computer use, with reminders and exercises for muscle relief.
RSIBreak is a free, open-source program that helps prevent repetitive strain injuries (RSI) for computer users. It runs in the background and occasionally reminds you to take micro-breaks, stretch, and relax your body.
Specifically, RSIBreak pops up an alert every 10-15 minutes (customizable) recommending the user take a 20 second break from typing to stretch and move the body. It provides illustrations and instructions for simple stretches and exercises focused on the wrists, hands, arms, shoulders, neck, back and eyes.
By encouraging regular short breaks and movement, RSIBreak aims to reduce the likelihood of chronic issues arising from prolonged static postures. It helps combat discomfort, pain, and longer-term musculoskeletal disorders associated with extensive computer use.
RSIBreak is available for Windows and Linux. It is open-source software released under the GNU General Public License, meaning it is free to use and modify. Customization options include adjusting the break interval timers, silence periods, and enabling/disabling certain exercise reminders.
