A free-to-play third person sci-fi shooter created by Digital Extremes, where players control members of the Tenno, a group of ancient warriors fighting in a planetary system with different factions.
Warframe is a cooperative free-to-play third person online action game set in an evolving sci-fi world. The game was developed and published by Digital Extremes and initially released in 2013 for Windows PC and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
In Warframe, players control members of the Tenno, a race of ancient warriors who have awoken from centuries of suspended animation to find themselves at war. The Tenno have access to technologically advanced weapons and armor called Warframes that give them superhuman powers and abilities. There are over 50 different Warframes to choose from, each with unique offensive, defensive, and utility skills.
The game features both player vs environment and player vs player game modes spread across an interconnected system of planets, moons, ships, open worlds and other locations. Players can team up in squads to complete missions against enemies like the militaristic Grineer, the horrific Infested, the high-tech Corpus faction, and the Sentient enemies. There is no monthly subscription, allowing players to drop in and out as frequently or infrequently as they like.
Since its initial release, Warframe has grown substantially through major updates that add new story quests, gameplay features, items, and more. It has also been ported to the Nintendo Switch. As of 2022, Digital Extremes reports over 65 million registered users.
