What is Scribus?
Scribus is an open-source desktop publishing software application for creating professional page layouts. It has a wide range of features to assist in layout and design such as advanced typography tools, vector graphics editing, PDF export and CMYK color support.
Scribus is well-suited for designing material such as magazines, journals, brochures, posters, newsletters, books, and flyers. It enables flowing text across columns and pages with automatic text frames. Complex text layouts with inline graphics, lists, tables and shapes can be created easily.
Other key features include professional typesetting with kerning, ligatures and hyphenation. It supports OpenType advanced features for sophisticated font and glyph handling. The integrated vector graphics editor allows drawings to be created from scratch or imported from external sources.
For commercial printing, Scribus supports ICC color management, separations, CMYK and spot colors. The software is fully cross-platform and has been translated into over 24 languages. An active developer and user community means Scribus has an extensive wiki and forum for support.
