What is OpenTracks?
OpenTracks is a lightweight GPS tracking & mapping app for sports activities like hiking, running, cycling etc. It is a completely free and open source app developed for Android devices.
With OpenTracks, users can easily track their outdoor fitness activities and view detailed statistics like path on map, distance, time, speed, pace, elevation etc. It provides auto-pause option to exclude times when you are stationary. Users can save their tracks, share or export to other apps and view on Google Maps/Earth later.
The app has a simple and intuitive interface allowing users to start, pause or complete trips with just a tap. Additional features include voice announcements, goals to reach target distance/duration, annotation to highlight important spots and more. It's low on battery usage and supports offline maps for navigation.
Being open source, OpenTracks is completely transparent on data collection and privacy. The GPS tracks remain only on the phone unless explicitly shared by the user. Overall it's a handy app for all kinds of outdoor activities where users want to record, view and analyze their performance.
