What is Torchlight (Series)?
Torchlight is an acclaimed action role-playing game series developed by Runic Games and published by Perfect World Entertainment. The series currently consists of three games: Torchlight (2009), Torchlight II (2012), and Torchlight III (2020).
The Torchlight games feature classic hack-and-slash RPG gameplay with randomly generated dungeons, hordes of enemies to defeat, and compelling loot systems that reward exploration. A key feature of the series is the ability to take pets into battle which can fight alongside the player, carry extra loot, and provide other bonuses.
The first Torchlight game introduced the dark fantasy world of Vilderan and the Nethermancer class. Torchlight II expanded on the gameplay with 4 new playable classes, online 4-player co-op, and mod support through the Steam Workshop. Torchlight III takes place a century later with the heroes working to rebuild settlements destroyed by the invading Netherim.
The Torchlight series has received generally positive reviews, with praise for their fast-paced combat, loot systems, charming graphics, and approachable game mechanics. They offer more casual alternatives to hardcore ARPGs like Path of Exile or Diablo for players looking for loot-driven hack-and-slash fun.
